Combination Kitchen with Refrigerator, Cooktop and Stainless Steel Sink
Did you know that there is a french term “the american refridgerator?” Many other countries feel the same. In some ways I think that our setup hurts us. We don’t go to the market and get fresh food as often. It seems harder to find farmers markets. We don’t spend as much social time on food.
I’m not sure the benefits outweigh all of the problems. Does a family of two need that much space? How long does some of that sit in there? How much sits so long that it juat gets thrown away?
How much empty space is in your fridge right now? Are you better off having thirty condiments hiding unused on a top shelf than having a few that you use and enjoy? Is buying that super jumbo bottle of ketchup really easier than buying it more often? Is the savings that great.
If it’s down to worrying about saving time and shaving off a few minutes shouldn’t we re-evalute our lives?
Space isn’t at as much of a premium here as it is many other places so we don’t think about it. Next time you cook look around, how much of what you have have you used in the last month? How often do you have more than two burners going? If you do, more power to you, if you don’t mdo you think that the extra space would be better used for something else?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI’ve never understood why I think I need more when I’m at home than when I’m camping. There’s probably a market for combining the leave no trace and getting things done cults into a simplified living space planner.
